![]() This man turned pro when he was thirteen. He started skateboarding on January 1st 1977 at the age of 10 in my home town Gainesville FL. after months of pleading to his father for a skateboard. Much of the tricks we do on the streets today come to us courtesy of Rodney Mullen. In the 80's he skated for "Powell Peralta" as a member of the infamous "Bones Brigade", where he performed smooth freestyle lines for thier many videos of that era.
He also stared in (and did the freestyle stunts for Christian Slater)in 1988's hugely popular "Gleaming the Cube"
During the 90's He skated for "Plan-b" and this is where he did his most technical and impressive tricks.Plan-b's videos were one of the best of the early 90's (my favorites are "The Questionable Video" and "Virtual Reality"). This is when Rodney(and everyone else at that time!) got his most tech. eg. "1 1/2 kickflip to casper slide", "casper slide 360 flip out" and the ballet like freestyle opening to his section on "Second Hand
Rodney now skates for the "enjoi" "Rodney Mullen vs. Daewon Song" is the latest video he's skated in(since they pulled his footage from Plan-b 's latest) and its really good, with a seperate freestyle and street sections.
If you've never seen Rodney Mullen skate before definitely check out some of the videos he's in.(even if you do'nt skate!Hell i've even had people who are cynical of skateboarders\skateboarding be stoked on him) Rodney Mullen is surely the best flat ground skater to have ever pushed off and rolled around this planet.
Born in 1970, Rodney has been blazing a trail through skateboard competitions and news. He started skating at age 11 after begging his dad for months to get a board. In the following two years Rodney got all the practice that he needed to become a pro, which made him one of the youngest skateboarding pros ever. Rodney went on to become the world freestyle champ 35 times over! Rodney has also invented moves like the kickflip, the kickflip-underflip, 360 flip, casper, and darkslide, to name a few. One of Rodney’s goals that he wants to accomplish is to be better on transition skateboarding. Rodney thinks that the two main tricks that he accomplished and couldn’t believe he was rolling away from are some of his best moves: the one and one-half flip to casper slide, and the casper slide 360 flip.
To me rodney is the best
